"Naked Life 6" - a performance by Tanja Ostojić, followed by a discussion event

"Naked Life 6" - a performance by Tanja Ostojić at the Society of Advocates, Aberdeen. Followed by a discussion event with Jonathan Baxter, Sonia Michalezwicz and invited guests

The sixth SCAN event will consider important questions around advocacy, politics and provocation in performative practice, bxploring the ethics of movement and migration through a consideration of experiences within Roma and Sinti populations, the largest minorities in Europe. 

SCAN is delighted to invite Tanja Ostojić to perform a new version Naked Life, a layered piece originally built on expressions of solidarity with the deportations of Roma people from Germany to Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, and Romania, and developed specifically from the artist’s ongoing research practice for the UK context.

The project, now in its sixth iteration, deals with bare life, social and political exclusion, deportation, racisms, state racism, biopolitics, xenophobia, and diverse cultural identities, asking: how is it possible that in contemporary Europe certain ethnic groups are constantly exposed and stripped of their political, social, and human rights?

Following on from the performance, a discussion will consider the radical negotiation of ideological, physical and social borders in Ostojić’s practice. Artist and curator Jonathan Baxter will draw on his experience in alternative peer education contexts to facilitate a discussion around these issues, inviting other guests from council, local government and activist contexts to comment on the possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration and ‘performance advocacy’ as a means to inform social and political change. Alongside the artists, Roma performer Sonia Michalewicz (E Karika Djal) will act as a respondent, sharing her personal experiences of the issues raised in conversation with the audience and invited guests. 

The event is free and open to all interested in the possibility of hospitality and solidarity in art contexts and beyond. Booking is essential.

OTVORENI STUDIO NOVE BEOGRADSKE HRONIKE

Otvoreni studio Nove Beogradske Hronike čini serijal televizijskih emisija kratke forme, u trajanju od oko 10 minuta.
Program kao referencu koristi tradicionalnu “Beogradsku hroniku”, i od nje preuzima kolažni, kulturno-zabavno-komunalno-informativni karakter uz goste emisije. Novina je, da će se Otvoreni Studio Nove Beogradske Hronike snimati bez rutine, na autentičnim gradskim lokacijama a ne u TV studiju, kao i činjenica da će fokus emisija biti sasvim drugačiji.

S namerom da portretiše žiteljke/žitelje Beograda i grad kao živu i raznoliku nadnacionalnu sredinu, Otvoreni Studio Nove Beogradske Hronike će se, pre svega fokusira na alternativne tendencije i marginalizovane pojedince i grupe, koji uglavnom imaju restriktivan pristup medijima, i koji su često isključeni iz procesa donošenja odluka koje bitno određuju njihove živote i njihovu budućnost. Restriktivan pristup pojedinih grupa žitelja u donošenju odluka najčešća je posledica toga što one nemaju ravnopravan položaj u društvu, nemaju svoje pretstavnike koji bi za njihova prava lobirali u političkim, ekonomskim i medijskim strukturama…

Emisije Otvorenog Studija Nove Beogradske Hronike će se baviti temama: alternativne arhitekture, reciklaže sirovina, položaja Romskih zajednica, gay i lezbijskih zajednica, jednakosti polova, alternativnim pristupima pojmu doma i stanovanja, alternativnim pristupima ishrani, vegetarijanstvom, alternativnim ekonomijama, Kineskom manjinom u Beogradu, alternativnom medicinom kao i pojmovima potrošačkog društva, beskućništva i dr.
